Reactive Extrusion Technology(REX) is based on twin-screw as continuous reactor vessel. The monomers, initiator, additives were added into the screw through different charging holes by one time or several times. The reaction system were mixed and transported by the shearing and driving force of the screw and completed reaction in it. Compared with traditional bath process, it was a continuous manner with higher efficiency. Furthermore it can polymerize the monomer and modify the polymers in non-solvent condition, which was avoided to the pollution and significantly reduced the cost. It has been widely used in the region such as polymerization and polymer modification. The REX Technology became a research hot spot worldwide.

The REX Technology started late in China, so some domestic researchers began to enter into this field until 1980s. After many years of unremitting efforts, they had several satisfactory achievements and were ahead in some realm. The professor Anna Zheng in the East China University of Science and Technology had been successfully prepared the high molecular polystyrene, polystyrene-butadiene-polystyrene and fluorinated silicone rubber gum with REX Technology.
